Less reliant on grocery stores or help from the local administration (specially in remote or difficult-to-reach locations) and more self-reliant till the point that you're rescued or rehabilitated if you've lost your home in the flood.

Since Sandy was just the last one, after many, many years of hurricanes and blizzards, I'd say "NO."

I've already been into survival mode and emergency food planning for the past 15 years. I live in the Colorado mountains several miles away from the conveniences of modern life. However, my parents got caught up in New York (they were visiting my aunt in Long Island) while my son studies at the university in Massachusetts.

Realistically, it shouldn't take Hurricane Sandy or a similar natural disaster for people to sit up and realize the importance of emergency food preparation. In fact, it was my father (a war veteran) who got me into the survivalist's mindset.

Meals Ready-to-Eat (MREs) are the staple of basic sustenance planning but the quickest, most effective way is is to stock up on bulk freeze dried or dehydrated foods. Focus on low sodium, protein-rich foods — soups, crackers, wheat (or alternatives if you're allergic), water, canned juice, beans, fruits, meat & fish, oatmeal, sugar, coffee, ketchup, energy bars.

The norm is to have a 3-month emergency food supply plan. Prevention is better than cure to mitigate the inevitable effects of chaos and panic.

Well, i beleive that we are the as you could say "supreme" race of earth and we are the number 1 species, until anything else becomes more powerful than us, it is almost like a right to do what we like with weaker species, and anyway, in the near future there will be mainstream use of grown meat as in meat grown in a lab, this is a breakthrough technology that will change animal views

Murder is murder no matter how you dress it up or try to excuse it.

Your soapbox got too long so everyone stopped reading.

You are picking a controversial issue that you will never get resolved the way you want it. The manner in which you speak (for the first sentences at least, I got bored) makes it clear that you want the fight and debate. Make sure you are factually (not opinionatedly) informed on the subject you are debating, or the people that disagree with you will have their beliefs confirmed, and those that agree with you will be embarrassed to agree with someone who is not attempting to find truth and facts for their argument.
